A shuddering place. Monument by A. Ambraziūnas, 1984. 32 m tall, about 100 m wide, located next to the Ninth Fort, the place of the first two massacres commited by the Nazis on Jews, just before the idea of the Final Solution was put into practice. During the Soviet occupation, the place was used by Stalin's political police as a prison. On April 11, 2011, the memorial was vandalized — the memorial tombstones were knocked down, and white swastikas were spray-painted on the memorial. On the adjacent sidewalk, the words “Juden raus” (German: Jews Out) were inscribed.

Not an easy place to find. The last stretch from the main road is in very bad condition and it's not indicated. Fortunately, Google Maps did a fantastic job.

Un lugar escalofriante. Monumento de A. Ambraziūnas, 1984, de 32 m de altura y unos 100 de anchura, localizado junto al Noveno Fuerte, lugar en el que las Nazis cometieron las dos primeras masacres de judíos, justo antes de que se pusiera en práctica la idea de la Solución Final. Durante la ocupación soviética, el fuerte fue utilizado como prisión por la policía política de Stalin. En Abril de 2011 el memorial fue vandalizado -tiraron las lápidas y pintaron esvásticas sobre el monumento. En la acera contigua escribieron en alemán “Judíos Fuera”.

No es un lugar fácil de encontrar. El último tramo desde la carretera principal está en muy malas condiciones y no está indicado. Afortunadamente, Google Maps hizo un gran trabajo.
